GridGain Systems has released GridGain Professional Edition 1.8, a fully supported version of Apache® Ignite™ 1.8. GridGain and Apache Ignite are in-memory computing platforms deployed between the data and application layers that work with all popular RDBMS, NoSQL and Hadoop databases. They provide data intensive applications with the ability to scale out to petabytes of data and accelerate application performance by 1,000x or more compared to disk-based data stores. The new In-Memory SQL Grid extends the platform by providing a full set of in-memory distributed database capabilities. The In-Memory SQL Grid also provides GridGain and Apache Ignite with enhanced geospatial functionality. Redis protocol support and support for .NET Entity Framework 2nd Level Cache and ASP.NET Session Caching are additional new features included in this release.
GridGain In-Memory SQL Grid with DML and Geospatial Functionality
The In-Memory SQL Grid adds in-memory distributed database capabilities to the GridGain platform so developers can now dramatically speed up and scale out SQL applications with minimal or no code changes. The In-Memory SQL Grid is horizontally scalable, fault tolerant and ANSI SQL-99 compliant with full support for SQL and DML commands including SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, MERGE and DELETE queries.
Developers take heed: Minimal code changes are needed to communicate with the GridGain platform thanks to the In-Memory SQL Grid. In addition to natively supported Java, .NET, and C++, the new JDBC and ODBC driver capabilities allow SQL-based cross-platform connectivity from languages such as Ruby, PHP, Python, and more.
The In-Memory SQL Grid also provides enhanced geospatial capabilities. Geospatial support makes the GridGain and Apache Ignite in-memory computing platforms well suited for an location-based IoT use cases, such as those found in transportation, logistics, mobile, retail and wearables.

Redis Protocol Support in GridGain
Redis is an open source in-memory data structure store that can be used as a database, cache and message broker. Using native Redis protocol support, developers can now store and retrieve distributed data to and from a GridGain cache using any Redis-compliant client. This makes it easy to migrate from the Redis caching solution to the full-featured GridGain or Apache Ignite in-memory computing platform with minimal changes to client communication protocols.
.NET Entity Framework 2nd-Level Cache and ASP.NET Session Caching in GridGain
.NET Entity Framework’s 2nd level cache can be easily plugged into existing applications to deliver significant performance improvements because query results are stored in a shared, distributed, fault-tolerant cache. An enriched ASP.NET session management component provided by the Ignite.NET session state provider allows a session to be distributed across a cluster of machines for fault-tolerant workload balancing.
