The GridGain Enterprise Edition Rolling Production Updates feature enables you to co-deploy multiple versions of GridGain software and allow them to co-exist as you roll out new versions. This prevents any downtime when performing software upgrades.
GridGain Rolling Production Updates Details
New versions of GridGain can be automatically deployed on live clusters to provide continuous availability. The GridGain Enterprise Edition Rolling Production Updates feature enables you to co-deploy multiple versions of GridGain software and allow them to co-exist as a new version is rolled out. This easy-to-use feature prevents downtime when performing software upgrades.
With Rolling Production Upgrades enabled, you can have a new node with a newer version of GridGain join your existing GridGain cluster to replace an existing node. Data is rebalanced to accommodate this new member of the cluster. Once rebalancing is complete, you can shut down the corresponding old node. This process can be repeated until all servers are upgraded to the new version. Rolling Production Upgrades allows you to upgrade GridGain one node at a time, without stopping the whole cluster.
GridGain Rolling Production Updates Monitoring
The Rolling Updates Tab in the GridGain GUI Visor management tool provides a special screen that monitors the process of rolling upgrades while you stop and start nodes, one by one.
Before you start upgrading, you will see all currently existing nodes in the Latest Version Nodes section. Visor will also show if there is a new version of GridGain available:
When you start adding nodes with a newer version of GridGain installed, they will appear in the Latest Version Nodes section. Nodes with previous versions of GridGain will be moved to the Previous Versions Nodes section:
The process is successfully finished when all nodes in the Latest Version Nodes section have the correct new version of GridGain and the Previous Versions Nodes section is empty:
